The duration of the course varies slightly depending on class size, but it usually between 2-3 hours to complete the online training, and between 3-5 hours for the practical on the day. The course covers essential maritime safety knowledge, rules, and practical skills.

They are updated overnight, every night.
We will re-test you for free. Suffice to say, it's our job to get you up to speed with the Boat and Jetski Training, just as a car and motorcycle instructor does on the road. In our 4 years of operation, we've had a very small handful of students deemed unsuccessful, which we later re-tested. They left more confident and capable the second time. We don't charge a re-test fee, ever.
No, you are no longer required to place a registration on your boat. You will not be fined if you leave an expired registration label on your boat.
You need to be at least 16 years old to apply for a boat licence and 16 years old to apply for a jetski (PWC) licence in Queensland. Students can start their Online Theory and complete the Practical Training from the age of 15.5yo.
To register your boat in QLD, head to your nearest transport and motoring customer service centre.
Remember to bring with you:
A completed Queensland regulated ship registration application (F3525)
Evidence of the boat’s origin (such as a purchase receipt)
Evidence of your identity (such as a current driver licence)
Payment for registration costs (if applicable)—you may qualify for a registration concession. Third party insurance is not included in the registration cost—you will need to take this cover out with an insurer.
If you live in a rural area, you can visit a QGAP office, Magistrates Court or local police station that provides registration services.

A complete a marine licence application -F2334 (Available at TMR)
Your proof of identity – if you have your driver licence in the Digital Licence app, you can use the app to verify your identity
Your original and current statement of competency from your BoatSafe training provider—if your original statement is lost, you must get a replacement from the training provider

Yes. The fees in Queensland to add a boat and jetski licence to your current drivers licence are as follows:
Recreational marine driver licence: $123.85
Personal watercraft licence: $123.85
The speed limits for boats in Queensland depends on the water type. For smooth waters typically within half a nautical mile from shore, including rivers, creeks, lakes, waters within breakwaters, the speed limit is 40 knots.
For open waters however, there is typically no set "open water" speed limit in the ocean. Boaters are required to operate at a "safe speed" based on weather conditions, density of traffic on the water, background lights and draft of the boat.
Yes, you can convert your valid interstate marine licence to a Queensland marine licence at a transport and motoring customer service centre or QGAP office that provides marine licensing services—please call to confirm before visiting.
To do this, you will need to:
complete a marine licence application (F2334)
bring your proof of identity
bring your original interstate marine licence (must be current or expired less than 5 years)
pay the one-off licence fee.
You will get confirmation of your marine licence.
Yes you can. Once registered, you will get registration numbers allocated to your boat and you must display registration numbers so they can be read from 30m away and in a contrasting colour to the hull of the boat. Provided those conditions are met, you may design your own, or engage a professional to do so.
The size of the registration numbers depends on the type of boat:
Boats capable of planing—at least 150mm high on both sides.
Boats not capable of planing—at least 75mm high on both sides or the stern.
PWCs— must be at least 100mm high and on both sides.
Yes. The BoatSafe program in QLD ensures that the RMDL and PWC licences issued in QLD are among the most rigorous out of any of the Australian states.
The boat (RMDL) and jetski (PWC) licences in Queensland are valid for life, with no current requirements to renew. It is however, important to keep your contact details updated with the authorities. Click Here. for more information from Transport and Main Roads.
The prices across Queensland vary depending on location and availability. Our boat and jetski licence prices are the best available price anywhere on the Sunshine Coast, as follows:
Boat (RMDL): $285 + $15 online training
Jetski (PWC): $250 + $15 online training
Boat and Jetski (RMDL + PWC): $474 + $25 online training
For group bookings of more than 4 students, we can run private sessions, just give us a bell.
Yes, provided they are under the supervision of a licenced driver.
Yes, particularly with drink driving over .05 BAC.
No, you'll get a seperate marine licence in this case.
No, you can drive any vessel on the water for recretional purposes only, once qualified.
Unfortunately, due to a high number of last minute cancellations and no-shows, we require full payment at the time of the booking. If you need to move your booking at any stage, we will happily do so provided you give us more than 48 hours notice.

Cancellation/Rescheduling policy
Cancellation/Rescheduling policy
For Rescheduling bookings more than 48 hours prior to practical date, just give us a call and we will arrange a new date for you.
Rescheduling within 48 hours of practical session date with incur a 50% rescheduling fee and proof of completion on online theory before a new date can be locked in.
Cancellations without intention to rebook within 48 hours of practical session date will equate to 80% of your booking fee. This also applies to no shows on the day.
If ILICENCE, the BTO cancels an appointment, you may either reschedule- subject to availability or receive a full refund of the practical training free.
We will do everything we can to work with you and find you a date to get you licensed, this policy is to confirm your commitment to attending the scheduled session and for us to deliver the best experience possible for you.
It also protects ILICENCES’ interest in the incident of late cancellations/reschedules and no-shows.
Occasionally due to weather we will have to move start times or the date of the session. In this case, you will also have the option to reschedule to another date convenient to both parties at no cost to you.
